New Makita 4.0Ah Batteries BL1840Makita 4Ah battery

The long awaited Makita 4Ah batteries have arrived!  So are the new Makita batteries worth the wait?  Here at Tool and Industrial Supplies, we think the answer is a definite YES!

To understand if the new Makita batteries are for you, here's the most common questions we get asked:

Q How quickly do the new Makita 4Ah batteries take to charge?

A  True to form,  Makita have produced the fastest charging 4Ah battery on the market.  Usually the larger the battery, the longer the charge time (most other brands take over an hour to charge 4Ah batteries).  With the BL1840 's this time is kept to a minimum.  From dead to full charge, takes only 36 minutes.  (The 3Ah batteries take 22 minutes and the 1.5Ah batteries take only 15 minutes!)

Q How much heavier is the 4Ah battery than standard Makita batteries?

A Usually as you increase in battery power, battery weight increases but Makita 4Ah batteries weigh exactly the same as Makita 3Ah batteries. Lightweight and shock-absorbing. The Li-ion range delivers 430% more working capacity during it's lifetime compared to Ni-Cad and is 40% Lighter than Ni-MH. The Li-ion has minimal depletion of power during use or in storage over it's lifetime.

Q Will my 18V charger charge the new 4Ah batteries.

A Yes it will! In 36minutes if its the DC18RA or DC18RC (the majority of chargers that come with 3Ah tools) if you have an older model it will take a bit longer.

Q How much more run time does the makita 4Ah batteries have ?

A The new batteries have around a third more run time and battery life over the 3Ah batteries

Q Will the makita 4Ah batteries run hotter than the 3Ah?

A The new Makita batteries remain cool even in heavy use.

Q Will the new Makita 4.0ah battery work with my current 18V tools?

A Yes the BL1840 batteries will work with all current 18V tools that have a star on the connector plate, a yellow connector plate with a star or a yellow connector plate only.  So look for a star or a yellow connector .
